The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that its student loan scheme has recorded over one million applications on its official portal, marking one of the most successful public programmes under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement by its Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND said the milestone comes just over a year after the programme’s launch on May 24, 2024.
So far, the agency has disbursed over ₦116 billion to students across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, covering tuition and upkeep allowances.
Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr said the achievement demonstrates the impact of the Renewed Hope agenda on expanding access to higher education.
NELFUND reassured its commitment to ensuring that no qualified Nigerian is denied education due to financial constraints, emphasising that the scheme remains transparent, inclusive and non-discriminatory.
