The Nigerian government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China to enhance the nation’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The partnership aims to equip Nigerians with essential hands-on skills, enhance technical education, and bolster vocational training nationwide.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at an event attended by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.
Sani-Gwarzo spoke about the significance of the partnership, noting that it will substantially enhance Nigeria’s technical capacity and ensure that acquired knowledge is effectively applied.
He expressed confidence in the long-term nature of the collaboration, drawing from China’s rapid advancements in education and technology.
While not legally binding, the agreement establishes a partnership and mutual support framework with room for future expansion.
Mr. John Zhao, a director at the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), assured that China would contribute its expertise, technology, and resources to help enhance skill acquisition in Nigeria.
Zhao also noted that the MoU aligns with the priorities of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which focuses on education as a key driver of national development.
The partnership, which resulted from rigorous internal discussions, is viewed as a significant step toward addressing the challenges in Nigeria’s education sector and aligning with national development goals.
