In an effort to enhance learning for young children, the Oando Foundation (OF) has upgraded 10 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) centres across four public primary schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The intervention, part of the foundation’s LEARNOVATE-SEED initiative, targets equitable access to early education —a sector where UNICEF reports that only one in three Nigerian children are enrolled. Schools benefiting from the upgrade include Seabed Model Primary, St Paul’s Model Primary, Cornel Abbe Model Primary (CAMPS), and Community Primary School.
At the handover ceremony, Oando Foundation Head Tonia Uduimoh emphasised the foundation’s role in building human capital: “Our goal is to help restore the glory of public schools and ensure the next generation is better prepared to contribute to society and the workforce.”
Representing the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs Mina Gabriella Tolofari praised the project, describing it as “an incredible upgrade” that will transform early childhood learning in the state.
The initiative provided 720 ergonomic chairs, 120 tables, playmats, bookshelves, wall-mounted whiteboards, and 50-inch LED TVs preloaded with educational content, offering children interactive and comfortable learning environments.
Through such partnerships, the foundation hopes to nurture young minds and strengthen Nigeria’s future workforce.
