Residents of Ede, Osun State, received free medical care on Saturday, September 20, as medical students from Obafemi Awolowo University, under the banner of the IFUMSA Health Awareness Club, held their annual outreach programme.
Over 30 medical professionals and 80 student volunteers attended the event. During the events, they provided vital services, including health checks and minor surgical operations. The interventions were well planned to enable easy access for those who needed the services. For example, while consultations and screenings were held at the Timi of Ede’s Palace, those who needed surgeries were directed to the General Hospital. This ensured that all patients were attended to, including those with complex needs.
For many locals, especially the elderly and vulnerable people, the outreach provided rare access to healthcare without the financial burden. Beneficiaries included a retired soldier battling poor eyesight and a trader who had a skin tag removed, both expressing relief and gratitude.
The annual programme is aimed at reaching underserved communities, and organisers say it reflects their commitment to using medical knowledge in the service of humanity.
