Olakunle Ologunro
Lagos-born writer Olakunle Ologunro has been awarded the Olive B. O’Connor Fellowship in Fiction at Colgate University for the 2025–2026 academic year. The fellowship provides a stipend, office space and a supportive intellectual environment for writers completing their first books, with teaching duties of one creative writing workshop per semester.
Ologunro, who holds an MFA in Fiction from Johns Hopkins University (2024), also won the 2025 Elizabeth George Foundation Grant to support his short story collection. He has received other notable honours, including the Tennessee Williams Scholarship, a Juniper Summer Workshop Scholarship, and recognition as a 2025 Emerging Writer Fellow by Aspen Words. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
His short stories have appeared in Story Magazine, Lolwe, and anthologies such as Queer Africa and Feel Good, the latter featuring his story “The Mathematics of Hooking Up.”
Currently, he is completing his first book, which has been longlisted for the 2025 Deborah Rogers Award, and teaching creative writing at Colgate. He is also scheduled to be writer-in-residence at the KHN Centre for the Arts in December 2025.
