The Schneider Electric Foundation has donated industry-grade training equipment to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), as part of its push to strengthen technical capacity in Nigeria’s energy sector.
The intervention aligns with the company’s Access to Education programme, which recently surpassed its target of training one million people in energy management across West Africa. The initiative also builds on earlier donations to technical colleges under the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board.
At FUTO, electrical and engineering students will now have access to customised didactic benches designed for domestic wiring and industrial motor starter applications, giving them practical experience that reflects real-world industry standards.
A representative of the university welcomed the partnership, noting that the equipment will enhance student readiness for a rapidly evolving energy industry.
“Universities play a critical role in developing Nigeria’s future workforce. By partnering with FUTO, we are ensuring that students gain exposure to the same tools and technologies used in today’s energy industry,” said Funmilayo Olakitan, Schneider Electric Foundation Delegate for West Africa.
The foundation also provided intensive training for instructors and was committed to periodic refresher sessions.
