Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has proposed how the 753 houses in Abuja, confiscated from the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, should be utilised.
Sani recommended that the properties be allocated to Nigerian universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research institutes. He stated that such a move would not only benefit the institutions but also preserve the historical significance of the estate.
Posting on his X handle, the former lawmaker wrote: “The 753 seized Houses in Abuja should be shared among all Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Research Institutes. It is enough to go around. They can decide what they want to do with it. The future generation will learn from the history of the Houses and appreciate the actions taken.”
In December 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the final forfeiture of the estate linked to Emefiele. Justice Jude Onwegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ordered the forfeiture of 753 duplexes, reportedly located in the Lokogoma district of Abuja.
Following the judgment, the EFCC handed over the properties to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
