Teachers’ Dignity will be Restored — NCCE Boss

Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Paulinus Chijioke, has assured that the dignity of teachers in Nigeria will soon be restored as colleges of education begin running degree programmes alongside the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE).

Speaking in an interview, Chijioke explained that 18 colleges have been selected for the pilot phase of the new “dual mandate,” which will commence from the 2025/2026 academic session. He noted that many of these institutions already possess the necessary manpower, facilities, and experience, as they have previously produced degree graduates in affiliation with universities.

He praised the Federal Government for approving the policy, describing it as a major step in reducing wastage and making full use of available resources, especially lecturers with PhDs and modern facilities.

Chijioke said the move will boost the teaching profession, attract bright minds, and ensure teachers receive the respect they deserve, adding that education remains the foundation for Nigeria’s development.
