Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFund
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, says Nile University has risen to become one of Nigeria’s most sought-after institutions. He made the comments while delivering the university’s 13th convocation lecture on Tuesday.
Echono said the institution, founded in 2009, has grown into a flagship private university with strong programmes across medicine, engineering, law, sciences and the humanities.
He noted that he frequently receives enquiries from prominent Nigerians about the university, describing it as one of the fastest-growing and most attractive options for students in the country.
He commended Nile University’s full accreditation status across nearly all programmes, attributing it to the institution’s commitment to academic rigour, experiential learning, entrepreneurship and strong career-support structures.
Echono also called for urgent reforms to the national curriculum to align with emerging global skills. He highlighted ongoing partnerships to expand broadband access, strengthen digital learning and scale ICT adoption under the Digital Nigeria initiative.
According to him, Nigeria must shift from producing job seekers to nurturing job creators.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dilli Dogo said the institution’s growth reflects continuous investment in quality teaching, infrastructure and innovation. He added that the university’s medical programme now enjoys international recognition, including approval by the UK General Medical Council.
