President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita as the new Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano.
A statement from the president’s office said Kaita takes over from Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who will now focus on his role as chairman of the Federal Housing Authority. Kaita, who retired from the Nigerian Air Force, previously served as Director of Strategy at Defence Headquarters and later as Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation. He is credited with advancing training and standardisation within the service. The appointment places him at the head of one of northern Nigeria’s leading universities, where he will oversee policy, governance and long-term planning in partnership with the management.
