President Bola Tinubu has told his education team to stop university and college workers from going on strike again. The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, revealed this during an interview on Channels Television.
Alausa said the Federal Government is now meeting regularly with school unions like ASUU, NASU, SSANU, and COEASU to prevent future problems. He explained that past governments failed to honour agreements with these unions, which led to repeated strikes. However, this administration is doing things differently. “We are building good relationships and fulfilling our promises,” Alausa said.
He also denied rumours that another strike is coming soon. According to him, the government’s ongoing reforms are already improving Nigerian universities, with some now being ranked globally. Meanwhile, the ASUU branch at Yobe State University has ended its strike after reaching an agreement with the state government. Lecturers there have resumed work immediately.
