United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced that it will continue to support Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in its academic growth efforts. UBA’s Regional Manager, Mr. Kabiru Yusuf, made this promise when he visited the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Adamu Ahmed, on Thursday, May 29 2025. He said the bank is committed to helping ABU become even better in teaching, research, and learning.
Mr Yusuf said the bank enjoys a strong working relationship with ABU Microfinance Bank and is always ready to assist the university whenever needed. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and university management for the warm reception they had given him and his team.
In his response, Prof Adamu Ahmed appreciated the visit and recalled how UBA had donated ₦5 million in 2005 when the university hosted the West African Games Association (WAUG). He said the university is currently facing financial challenges and is seeking more Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to improve funding and facilities.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged UBA to do more for ABU through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He said the university would be happy to have the bank leave a lasting impact on campus through such support. The meeting was attended by key university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement, Research, and Innovation), Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi. Also present were the Bursar, Malam Mohammed Bello Aminu Gurin, and the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Mohammed Yusuf.
