Festus Adegbola, a graduate of the University of Ibadan and a PhD student at the University at Buffalo, is leading a big NASA research project in South Africa. The project is part of NASA’s BioSCape mission and focuses on studying plants and animals in the Greater Cape Floristic Region.
Adegbola and his team are utilising modern tools to investigate how climate change and human activities impact birds and plants. The aim is to utilise the findings to inform more effective environmental protection policies.
Starting his journey in Nigeria, Adegbola graduated with top honours from UI and once led youth environmental projects. He has won international awards for his research and has presented his findings at major scientific events. His supervisor, Professor Adam Wilson, stated that NASA’s support underscores the global significance of Adegbola’s work. The study will help develop more effective tools for protecting nature worldwide.
