The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, has restated the school’s commitment to creating a campus where every student, regardless of physical ability, can succeed. He gave this assurance during a special welcome event for students with disabilities, organised by the Directorate of Student Affairs on July 2, 2025.
Professor Ishaya appreciated the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Chris Piwuna, for organising the event, saying it shows the university truly cares about inclusivity. He noted that steps have been taken to improve accessibility across all campuses. He revealed that UNIJOS has employed support staff, such as sign language interpreters, and that newly constructed buildings are now being designed with accessibility in mind for people with disabilities. He also stated that students with disabilities are now enrolled in various departments, not just in special education. The Vice-Chancellor assured the new students of the university’s full support to help them succeed.
