The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has warned students, staff, and external collaborators against filming or video production on its premises without prior approval.
In a statement by the Head of Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university expressed concern over the increasing use of its facilities, including hostels and academic buildings, for skits, films, and online content produced without authorisation.
UNILAG said it has established formal procedures for securing approval to use its spaces for cinematographic activities, aimed at preserving safety, decorum and the integrity of the institution’s image.
“All individuals or groups wishing to record on campus must obtain prior approval from the Communication Unit at the Senate House, UNILAG, Akoka,” the statement read.
The institution reaffirmed its support for creativity and self-expression but stressed that such activities must comply with institutional and ethical standards. UNILAG also disclosed plans to intensify monitoring of campus content creation, citing a rise in inappropriate online portrayals of the university community. Members of the university and the public were urged to comply strictly with the directive to maintain order and discipline.
