Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, has charged African researchers and intellectuals to be logical thinkers and problem solvers rather than mere knowledge creators and incubators.
She disclosed this news at the Inter-University Conference for Doctoral Studies (IUCDS) on Tuesday, Jun. 17, 2025. The event, attended by post-students in collaboration with the UNILAG Faculty of Arts, aimed to enlighten intellectuals on the importance of growth in the educational sector.
Ogunsola stated that African researchers must take on the responsibility of seeking indigenous knowledge, especially that which has been suppressed by colonisation. She added that such intellectuals must hone their skills and stressed the importance of originality, quality, inclusivity, and thoughtful community engagements.
Discussing with other members of the IUCDS Forum, she urged listeners to build a lucrative network, partner with an open mind, and remain vigilant in the pursuit of national development. She said, “Create new networks, criticise each other with an open mind, inspire each other, and give room for ideas that will elevate academia and make research outcomes more salient in the pursuit of national development.”
Prof. Abraham Osinubi, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at UNILAG, described the forum as a means of nurturing an unbreakable chain for inter-university engagements. Meanwhile, news has emerged that UNILAG has begun accepting postgraduate applications for the 2025/2026 academic session.
