UNILORIN Commissions JAMB Merit Award Hostel

UNILORIN officially handed over the newly completed JAMB Merit Award Hostel

The University of Ilorin has officially handed over the newly completed JAMB Merit Award Hostel, a symbolic project aimed at boosting student accommodation on campus.

The announcement was made on December 3, 2025, by Mr Abdulrahaman Toyin Jimoh, Director of the Physical Planning Unit.

Mr Jimoh described the hostel as a recognition of UNILORIN’s academic excellence and stability, adding that it was made possible through the support of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) under former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Oloyede.

He praised the contractor, Ayeloja Engineering Limited, for the quality of its work and confirmed a test run of the hostel from December 2025 to June 2026 to check for any structural issues.
Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, represented by Sub-Dean Dr Oluwatosin B. Igbayiloye, lauded JAMB for the timely intervention.

She noted that the self-contained hostel, equipped with solar panels, a pump system, and fire safety devices, would help alleviate accommodation challenges and set a benchmark for future partnerships.

Both officials urged students to use the facilities responsibly and report any maintenance issues promptly.
