The European-American University has confirmed that the honorary doctorate awarded to Hausa musician Dauda Kahutu, popularly known as Rarara, is genuine.
Dr Josephine Egbuta, Head of African Operations at High-Grade Professional Education Centre Ltd, the university’s international partner, dismissed reports questioning the award’s legitimacy. “Contrary to claims, the honorary doctorate award presented to Rarara is not fake,” she stated in a press release on Tuesday.
Egbuta explained that the European-American University has worked with High-Grade Professional Education Centre Ltd since 2008, with her late husband, Prof Williams A. Egbuta, serving as the university’s Honorary Coordinator for Africa.
She also countered assertions by Dr Luke Okojie of Accolades Communications, who claimed recognition as the university’s pro vice chancellor. “He was a resource fellow and worked as a professional printer during our 2016 convocation in Togo,” she said.
According to her, the Abuja ceremony where Rarara received the doctorate was organised correctly, with awardees screened and approved beforehand. She further presented certificates and a Memorandum of Understanding between the university and High-Grade Professional Education Centre Ltd as evidence.
“No contrary correspondence from the university has been communicated to High-Grade Professional Education Centre Ltd,” Egbuta added.
