OAU Opens Nominations for 2025 Honorary Degrees

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has invited nominations for the award of honorary degrees at its 2025 Convocation scheduled for December.

The university said its Honorary Degrees Committee would soon begin consideration of nominations in line with Statute 18(1) of the University Laws, which allows for the conferment of honorary degrees without examination.

According to the criteria released by the institution, nominees must have outstanding academic achievements, unique contributions to arts, culture and literature, or notable records in public service, business, industry or the professions. Candidates who have supported the progress and development of the university may also be considered.

However, the statement clarified that active political aspirants would not be eligible in order to avoid perceptions of bias. Nominations can be submitted by members of the university community, including staff, students, graduates, and council and senate members.

The university requested that nominations be documented and accompanied by the nominee’s curriculum vitae, with both soft and hard copies sent confidentially to the Vice-Chancellor’s office by September 19 2025.
