The University Governing Council recently held a heartfelt farewell ceremony to honour six of its members whose time on the Council has officially come to an end. The event, held on June 7, 2025, was filled with emotions and appreciation for their years of committed service to the university.
Those celebrated included Prof. Martins Ifeanacho, Prof. Ngozi Iheanacho, Prof. Nnena Frank-Peterside, and Prof. Gurdion Obute, who represented the University Senate, as well as Prof. Nath Abraham and Lady Flora Iyagba, who served as representatives of the Congregation.
During the ceremony, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, praised the outgoing members for their tireless efforts, unwavering loyalty, and significant contributions to the university’s growth and development. He called them wise leaders who helped make big decisions while they were on the Council.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Prof. Martins Ifeanacho expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve the university in such an important role. He thanked the Council and university leaders for their trust and support. He also said they would continue to support the university, even though they were no longer on the Council. One special moment at the event was when each of the six members received a gift. These gifts were given to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the university over the years. The event concluded on a happy and friendly note, with both current and outgoing Council members expressing appreciation and wishing each other the best for the future.
