The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has urged students of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) to maximise the opportunities the programme offers.
He made the call on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) during the four-day orientation for newly admitted students at Mini Campus, noting that CODL learners are on par with their on-campus counterparts, with only the delivery mode differing. Prof. Egbewole advised students to take the programme seriously, utilise digital tools, and avoid complacency.
The University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, encouraged learners to access the University’s e-library, academic databases, and online journals to strengthen research and broaden learning.
CODL Director, Prof. Modinah Adeleke Abdulraheem, described distance learning as a transformative platform that offers flexibility, accessibility, and digital competence, urging students to embrace self-discipline, motivation, and independent learning.
Mr Raheem Adetunji from the Security Unit advised students to safeguard personal information and remain vigilant both online and offline.
Other speakers highlighted key skills for success, including time management, consistent engagement, and active participation in assessments.
The orientation also included the Secretary of CODL, Mrs Maymunat Zakariyah, and Dr Odebode Aminat, the Director of the Centre for Leadership and Management.
