The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has advised students to write the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to avoid examination malpractice.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Alli-Balogun stressed the importance of integrity and discipline, urging students to remain focused throughout the examination period from April 24 to June 20.
He said the government had provided all the necessary tools and learning support. He added that it was up to the students to approach the examination positively and avoid peer pressure or malpractice that could jeopardise their future.
The commissioner highlighted the Eko Learners’ Support Programme as a significant support system. It offers 320 televised and online lessons across 10 core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Yoruba.
He also revealed new strategies to improve the quality of teaching in schools, including a directive for principals and vice principals to handle six to eight teaching periods weekly.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration is intentional about academic excellence and committed to enhancing performance in major national examinations,” Alli-Balogun noted.
He added that all the learning materials used in schools align with the Lagos State curriculum and the syllabi of WASSCE and the National Examination Council, which begin on June 16.
