Whitesands School, Lekki, Lagos, has emerged the winner of the Helmbridge Science Challenge 2025, which featured 32 top secondary schools out of 50 schools invited. The school defeated St. Finbarr’s College and SMAC College, the first and second runners-up, and received a ₦500,000 cash prize. Excluding the cash prize for the winner and both runners-up, students received textbooks, certificates, and exclusive discounts to a six-week summer science boot camp. The science programme is designed to deepen their knowledge in the subject and other areas, particularly in the integration of technology.
Dike Wilfred, the Director of Helmbridge, suggested that the event’s motive extends beyond cash prizes and trophies. He said, “This is not only about winning. It is also about stretching these boys beyond their current curriculum, into advanced scientific thinking, and giving them a head start before tertiary education.”
