Why You Do not Feel the Earth Moving — Scientists Explain

Every second, Earth spins on its axis and races through space at an astonishing speed, yet no one feels a thing. Scientists say the reason lies in the physics of motion itself.

According to astronomers, the planet rotates around an imaginary axis running from the North to the South Pole at about 1,000 miles per hour. Simultaneously, it orbits the Sun at an incredible 67,000 miles per hour. Despite these dizzying figures, the motion is smooth and constant, meaning there are no jolts or shifts for humans to detect.

“People only feel movement when it changes – like when a car speeds up or stops suddenly,” said a university astronomer. “Earth’s rotation and orbit are steady, so we move with it without noticing.”

Experts point to indirect evidence of Earth’s motion: the daily rising and setting of the Sun, the change of seasons caused by Earth’s tilt, and the shifting positions of stars at night.

Astronomical observations and satellite images have long confirmed what cannot be directly sensed: our planet is constantly in motion through an ever-changing universe.
