A Nigerian-born science teacher, Mr. Otega Omoyibo, has been nominated for the prestigious Fellow of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (FSTAN) award, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to science education in Nigeria and internationally.
Omoyibo began his teaching career in Lagos and is currently based in Texas, USA.
Between 2021 and 2023, he served as a training facilitator for the Lagos State branch of STAN, introducing educators to modern teaching strategies, including hands-on STEM applications and digital tools.
His efforts significantly modernised science instruction during and after the COVID-19 lockdowns.
In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Omoyibo launched the Tegamatics YouTube Channel, offering free Chemistry and Mathematics lessons to students lacking access to stable internet or digital tools.
Despite limited resources and no formal training in media production, he self-taught video editing and content creation to reach underserved students.
Now teaching at a high school in Texas, Omoyibo continues to impact students across continents.
His Tegamatics videos have reached learners in Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and beyond, bridging educational gaps and fostering a love for science among students.
The nomination for the FSTAN fellowship, announced in February 2025, is a testament to Omoyibo’s dedication to enhancing science education.
The award is reserved for individuals whose work has made a significant contribution to advancing science education in Nigeria.
