At least 100 children orphaned by a Boko Haram attack in Mafa village, Yobe State, have been enrolled in school.
The children – 60 girls and 40 boys – were admitted to Central Primary School in Babbangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
Boko Haram fighters stormed Mafa on September 1 2024, killing at least 80 people and burning homes, shops and the market. Survivors fled to Babbangida for safety.
The new enrollments are part of a “Back to School” campaign led by Usman Bulama El-Wakil, the Yobe State Focal Person on Youth Empowerment.
He said the initiative aimed to restore hope. “These 100 children were enrolled to give them a chance at brighter futures after an unfortunate incident,” he said.
Headmaster of Babbangida Central Primary School, Malam Mohammed Yakubu, pledged to support the children. “We are ready to provide quality education to these new pupils,” he said.
