No fewer than 175 applicants under the Ogunteach internship programme have been screened by the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), as part of efforts to fill teaching vacancies in public primary schools, particularly in rural areas across the state.
The candidates who scored 40 and above in the qualifying examination were invited to the screening exercise held at the SUBEB Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The exercise was designed to verify applicants’ credentials and ensure a transparent selection process.
Chairman of SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, who supervised the exercise, urged the prospective interns to be willing to serve in rural communities, where the demand for qualified teachers remains high.
“Be ready to work in rural areas, not just in urban centres. Nobody will be posted outside Ogun State, but since we are recruiting for our rural schools, it would not make sense to post you where we already have enough teachers,” he said.
Ifede assured that appointment and resumption letters would be issued before the start of the next academic session, based on merit and qualification. He explained that the internship would last for a minimum of two years, after which candidates may be considered for permanent employment based on their performance.
