The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Professor Adamu Ahmed, has congratulated Professor Adewale Adedokun on his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC).
Professor Adedokun, who lectures in ABU’s Department of Computer Engineering and serves as Director of the Iya Abubakar Institute of Information and Communication Technology, was recently named head of the Mauritius-based organisation.
In a statement from the university, the Vice-Chancellor described the appointment as a reflection of ABU’s academic strength and long-standing record of excellence. He said the institution had complete confidence in Professor Adedokun’s ability to deliver in his new continental role.
AFRINIC is the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) responsible for managing and allocating Internet number resources such as IP addresses and autonomous system numbers across Africa.
A computer engineer and researcher, Professor Adedokun is expected to bring his technical expertise and leadership experience to the organisation, which supports the operational and developmental growth of the continent’s internet community.
