The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the upgrading of the State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Uyo.
According to a post-council statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the approval followed a memo presented by the Ministry of Education as part of efforts to enhance the standard of teacher training in the state.
Umanah said the move aligns with the Human Capital Development pillar of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which seeks to strengthen education and workforce capacity in Akwa Ibom.
He added that the upgrade will be regularised in line with existing laws governing tertiary education in Nigeria.
