The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has shown concern about the recent misallocation of funds by the government, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct his focus to creating a nation-building solution.
Recall that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) budgeted an expenditure of ₦39 billion on refurbishing the already functional Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC). CUPP, however, has taken to the media to express its disappointment over the government’s intention to rename institutions after President Tinubu.
High Chief Peter Ameh, CUPP’s National Secretary, said in a statement, “The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) is appalled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) reckless expenditure of 39 billion on refurbishing the already functional Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC).”
The press statement went on to condemn the FCTA’s actions and called for reform in the educational sector, health, and many other areas. The organisation also called for an immediate investigation into the expenditure budget for the ICC’s refurbishment. The national secretary also emphasised the need to create a legacy of a nation-building economy.
Ameh continued in his statement, “We urge President Tinubu to focus on building a legacy through tangible solutions—schools that educate, hospitals that heal, and industries that employ—rather than plastering his name on public assets. Nigerians deserve leadership that uplifts the nation, not monuments to personal ambition. The time for misplaced priorities is over. Let us build a Nigeria that works for all, not a gallery of self-glorification.”
Pres. Tinubu, on Thursday, June 12, responded to the heat from the PDP, CUPP, and other opposition parties. In a joint sitting of the National Assembly, the President noted that he would be excited to see the opposition parties remain in crisis.
