Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has commissioned a female hostel at Clifford University, Abia State, named after his late mother, Dr Veronica Adeleke. The unveiling occurred during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where he delivered the commencement speech.
Addressing the graduates, Davido urged them to pursue purpose over fame and use their talents to create impact. “Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” he said, reflecting on his journey and encouraging the students to turn “pain into power.”
He described the Veronica Adeleke Hostel as a tribute to his mother, an educationist and philanthropist who believed in changing lives through learning and compassion. “This building is a continuation of her purpose, turning love into legacy,” he added.
The ceremony also saw businessman Cubana Chief Priest pledge to sponsor the tuition of 50 students, while the Vice Chancellor, Prof Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for inspiring youth and supporting education.
