The Association of Resident Doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has issued a strong warning about the imminent collapse of the institution.
The doctors cited massive staff exodus, poor remuneration, and lack of government support as significant threats to the teaching hospital’s continued operation. In an open letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the doctors described the situation at the hospital as alarming, revealing that the number of resident doctors has plummeted from nearly 270 to fewer than 65. The letter stated that many doctors have left the hospital for better-paying jobs both within and outside Nigeria.
The letter, signed by Dr. Stephen Adedokun, President of the association, and Dr. Adedapo Mustapha, General Secretary, was titled “Open letter to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde: An urgent appeal to prevent the collapse of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.”
It stated in part, “We respectfully write to draw your attention to the imminent collapse of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, a critical pillar of healthcare delivery and medical education in Oyo State. As the only multispecialty tertiary institution owned by the state, the hospital serves as a referral centre for all 33 local government areas as well as neighbouring states.
