Education Minister Applauds Tinubu for Renaming UNIMAID After Buhari

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commended President Bola Tinubu for renaming the University of Maiduguri after the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The university, located in Borno State, will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri. In a statement issued on Friday by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, the minister described the gesture as a significant honour and a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to education and national development. “The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined,” Alausa said.

He added that the decision also demonstrates the President’s belief in education as a foundation for national progress, noting that it aligns with the values Buhari stood for during his tenure. Alausa also reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to promoting the values of service, integrity, and excellence, which he said were shared by both President Tinubu and the late President Buhari.

President Tinubu announced during a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) held in Abuja in honour of the late President. The event was attended by several national leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, governors, ministers, and other senior government officials.
