The University of Jos (UniJos) has denied rumours of a bomb threat targeting the institution and parts of Jos, the Plateau State capital. In a statement issued by the Senior Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications), Abdullahi Abdullahi, the University described the reports circulating on social media as false and urged the public to remain calm.
The panic followed the circulation of an internal security advisory that was inadvertently shared with an unintended audience. According to the University, the memo was a routine alert meant for its internal security team to ensure vigilance on campus.
The statement clarified that there is no immediate threat to the university or the surrounding area, and that academic activities are continuing as scheduled. It also stated that the University is working with the Plateau State Police Command and other security agencies to maintain peace and security on campus. The management advised members of the public and the university community to rely only on official updates from verified sources, including the University’s website: www.unijos.edu.ng. The institution urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims that could cause unnecessary panic.
