Ekiti Condemns Attack on Hospital Workers

The Ekiti State Government has condemned the assault on doctors and nurses at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado Ekiti. The incident happened on Friday when some accident victims receiving treatment allegedly turned violent and physically attacked medical staff.

Health Commissioner Dr Oyebanji Filani, in a statement on Sunday, described the act as “totally unacceptable,” warning that the state will not tolerate violence against health workers. He stressed that doctors and nurses work under challenging conditions to save lives and deserve respect and protection.

Filani assured that those responsible for the attack would be identified and sanctioned in accordance with the law. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment towards ensuring the safety of medical professionals across the state.

This development is an indication of the growing concerns over the safety of health workers in Nigeria, where cases of violence in hospitals have been on the rise, often discouraging frontline workers already battling limited resources and high patient demand.
