The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has said engineering and technology are crucial for addressing the challenges of climate change.
He made the remarks during the opening of the University’s 5th International Conference of the Faculty of Engineering, held in Ado-Ekiti, which drew participants from across Nigeria and beyond.
Professor Ayodele praised the Faculty of Engineering for its discipline and global reputation, noting that the achievements of Dr Omojola Awogbemi, recognised among the top two per cent of scientists worldwide in energy, reflect the faculty’s expertise and impact. He also commended alumni leader Engr. Dipo Bamisaye for strengthening ties between the University and its alumni.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the support of the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, for financial backing and timely payment of staff salaries, which he said had bolstered the University’s operations.
The conference, themed “Advancing Engineering and Technology for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” received over 80 research submissions, the Dean, Professor I. B. Oluwafemi, said. Organisers said it aimed to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration to develop sustainable technologies.
Awards of Honour were presented to Professor Ayodele, the keynote speaker, Professor James Oluwagbenga Aribisala of Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti, and lead paper presenter Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju.
