The Federal Government says the introduction of Chinese Corners in schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will equip Nigerian students with global exposure and enhance academic opportunities.
The Secretary for Education in the FCT, Dr Danlami Hayyo, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the 14th Chinese Corner at Government Secondary School, Tudun Wada. Hayyo said the initiative has also benefited teachers, who have participated in capacity-building programmes in China.
He added that the Chinese language was recently added as an international subject option in the senior secondary school curriculum, describing it as a move to position Nigerian students for global competitiveness.
“Our staff and teachers, too, have benefited from the collaboration by attending capacity building in China. Today we are proud to say that it is only the FCT that has Chinese Corners in its schools in the whole federation,” he said.
