Federal Government Denies Raising JSS1 Admission Age to 12

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the minimum age for admission into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) has been increased to 12 years.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Ministry’s Director of Press, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, clarified that the age benchmark remains 10 years. The clarification followed online reports suggesting that the entry age for JSS1 pupils had been reviewed upward. “The Ministry wishes to state clearly that the approved minimum age for JSS1 admission remains 10 years and no change has been made to this policy,” the statement read in part.
