The Federal Government has announced its intention to explore public-private partnerships (PPPs) to address the infrastructure shortage in public schools in Nigeria.
Dr Olatunji Alausa, Minister of Education, described the situation of Federal Government Colleges (also known as Unity Schools) as unacceptable. Alausa added that education is a high-investment project, and the government cannot independently fix its infrastructure deficit issue. As a result, private sector funding through PPP is essential to fix infrastructure problems in the Nigerian education sector. The minister appealed to the PPP inauguration committee to focus on PPP opportunities in secondary education.
