The Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure (FUTATH), has inaugurated a 20-bed residential facility for house officers as part of efforts to improve medical training and service delivery.
The building, located at the hospital’s take-off site, was donated by Chief Sunday Owoyemi, the Oluomo 1 of Akure Kingdom, and commissioned by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Chief Medical Director Professor Segun Ojo said the facility would provide a more conducive environment for young doctors undergoing their internship programme. He stressed the need for continued investment in training, research and infrastructure to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
“Interns represent the future of medical care in our country. When we support them, we are investing in the health and well-being of millions of Nigerians they will serve,” he said.
Ojo added that the project addresses the accommodation challenges faced by new doctors, allowing them to focus on professional development and patient care.
