The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) football team recorded a morale-boosting 1–0 win over Lapai Academy in a friendly match ahead of the 2025 Pre-NUGA and Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) competitions.
The tightly contested encounter, played at the Muhammadu Kobo Campus field, drew hundreds of spectators who turned out to support both sides.
A lone goal was enough to secure the win for Team IBBUL, boosting their confidence as they gear up for the prestigious university games. Speaking after the match, IBBUL’s Team Manager and Head Coach, Malam Suleiman Umar, hailed the performance as a positive step in their build-up.
“We have assignments ahead of us, and that is why we must train hard and play friendlies to keep our players fit. Football is about consistency; it is not like other sports where you can afford to take a break,” he said.
Suleiman praised his players’ determination and teamwork, noting that they executed their game plan well. “I am happy with my boys; the team spirit is there, and most importantly, they are playing as a unit. This is exactly what they have been trained to do to deliver when it matters,” he added.
