The Jigawa State government has approved projects worth over ₦2.5 billion to enhance education, agriculture, renewable energy, and financial inclusion.
The approvals followed a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Malam Umar Namadi on September 22.
In education, ₦869.6m will be used to renovate seven Tsangaya schools and build 30 recitation halls and reading centres for Almajiri pupils. Approximately ₦1.54 billion has also been allocated for bursary allowances to more than 22,000 students across 83 tertiary institutions.
A further ₦835 million will be allocated to a vocational training programme aimed at equipping young people with job skills. In comparison, ₦779.2 million is set aside for teaching materials and supervision in all 27 local government areas.
For agriculture, ₦396m will subsidise 12,000 bags of fertiliser, which will be sold to farmers at ₦33,000 each. In the energy sector, ₦733.1 million has been approved for a technical audit and planning of rooftop solar projects in schools, hospitals, and other public institutions.
The council also endorsed plans to establish five microfinance banks to widen access to financial services.
Information Commissioner Sagir Musa said the projects reflected the government’s priorities in education, food security, and energy.
