Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has launched an initiative to distribute free school uniforms to 30,000 female students in public schools across the state.
The distribution, which took place at the Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jahun, aims to promote girl-child education as a key driver for societal progress.
Governor Namadi explained that the programme, including sports materials, is part of the state’s commitment to ensuring free education for girls from primary school to university level.
He stated that educating girls is a powerful tool for national development, as it positively impacts families and communities.
The Governor spoke on women’s significant role in nurturing families, guiding children’s education, and contributing to societal growth.
He added that investing in girls’ education was crucial to empowering future generations.
Namadi also discussed the government’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure, including renovating school buildings, teacher training, and procuring educational materials.
He mentioned that education remains a priority in the state’s development agenda, with 32% of last year’s budget allocated to education and 26.7% allocated this year, the highest share among all sectors.
The Governor also introduced the ₦67 billion Jigawa Unite Project, a partnership with a UK-based institution aimed at integrating ICT into teaching, providing continuous teacher training, and enhancing the overall learning environment in the state.
This project aligns with the administration’s long-term goal of ensuring all Jigawa residents have access to quality education.
