Kaduna Polytechnic Defeats Water Resources Institute 2-0 as Sports Week Ends on High Note

Kaduna Polytechnic’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) concluded its 2025 Sports Week with a lively and colourful event, culminating in a final football match that saw the institution defeat the Water Resources Institute 2-0.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, ASUP Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Jibrin Abdullahi, said the sports week was organised to bring staff together and promote fitness and unity. “After long months of academic work, it is important to take time off to exercise, bond, and refresh. That is the main aim of this week’s event,” he explained.

The sports week included a wide range of activities such as a health walk, volleyball, indoor games, and seminars on nutrition. Winners in several events were also recognised. Highlights of the winners include, Egg Game: Itodor (1st), Charles (2nd), Female Egg Race: Jummai Umar (1st), Hauwa (2nd), bottle Race: Abdullahi (1st), Femi Daramola (2nd), 100m Race: Itodor (1st), Charles (2nd), Whot Game: Baje defeated Imam, Ludo (Female): Joy won against Madinat Musa, Table Tennis: Sunday Ugochi beat Charles Ofoji and Chess: Engineer Habib (1st), Engineer Musa Bala (2nd)

Comrade Jibril Bajeh, who emerged as the highest medalist and also serves as ASUP’s Publicity Secretary, praised the union for encouraging healthy living. He urged members to remain active and incorporate exercise into their daily lives. The ASUP Chairman also appealed to the institution’s Sports Director to use sports as a tool for peace, cooperation, and unity among staff.
