Kaduna Polytechnic Hints at Move to Attain University Status

Kaduna Polytechnic may be moving towards becoming a full-fledged university, following hints from the institution’s Head of the Department of Social Sciences, Dr Musa Ogwu Akwe.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Ogwu said the conversion would open up more academic opportunities for staff, allowing chief lecturers to advance to reader level, and help raise the institution’s academic profile. He also noted that the management had addressed key staff welfare issues, including the clearing of promotion arrears and continued payment of Excess Work Allowance, despite economic constraints.

According to him, recent infrastructure projects include the take-off of the School of Health at the Tudun Wada Campus, the handover of the Mass Communication Complex, and the renovation of several buildings across campuses. He added that TETFund interventions had supported both academic training and infrastructure, and called on staff to support the administration’s efforts to reposition the institution.
