Kwara Scholarship Pupils Shine in NCEE, But Inequalities Remain

The Kwara Education Trust Fund (Kwara ETF) scholarship scheme has achieved notable success in the 2025 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), with several beneficiaries posting strong results.

However, the outcome also revealed sharp disparities across local government areas, highlighting ongoing challenges in access to quality education. Out of 180 pupils sponsored under the initiative, candidates from Kaiama, Ekiti, and Patigi Local Government Areas ranked among the top scorers.

The highest candidate attained 131 points, which officials described as evidence of both pupil resilience and the impact of recent reforms in the state’s education sector. Other LGAs, however, recorded significantly lower averages, a gap attributed to economic pressures, under-resourced schools, and family financial struggles.

“This initiative proves what we have always believed, that brilliance is evenly distributed across Kwara, but opportunity is not,” said Zainab Abdulsalam, KwaraETF programme manager.

“Our task is to close the gap and ensure no child is left behind because of where they come from or their family’s financial situation,” she added.
