About 58,820 young Nigerians have registered for the Youth Data Protection Awareness and Training (YDPAT) programme, according to the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
The scheme, organised in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and Globe Takers Foundation, closed registration in early September after a 53-day window.
Youth Minister Ayodele Olawande said the response reflected the eagerness of young people to build digital awareness and contribute to national development.
The training will begin with an initial cohort of 5,000 participants drawn from all six geopolitical zones. The ministry said remaining registrants would still benefit from other youth-focused initiatives to ensure “no youth is left out.”
YDPAT will run in a hybrid format combining online and in-person sessions, with virtual training scheduled to start in November and physical sessions in December. Accreditation of selected participants is expected in October.
The ministry called on development partners, state governments and the private sector to support the initiative, which aims to raise a digitally aware generation capable of protecting personal data and contributing to Nigeria’s data-driven economy.
