Modibbo Adama University Bans Sign-Out

Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has announced a ban on “Sign-Out” celebrations, a carnival-like event organised by students to mark graduation or the end of their studies. The university described the activities as “uncultured” and said they violate institutional rules and regulations.

In a statement, university management emphasised that all students, regardless of their level, are prohibited from organising or participating in sign-out events. The decision aligns with directives from both federal and state governments, which have restricted similar celebrations in institutions across Nigeria.

The university warned that students who defy the ban would face consequences, noting that degrees are awarded based on academic performance and character, and participation in such events is inconsistent with the values expected of graduates.

The Security Office and the Department of State Security (DSS) have been informed to ensure compliance. University authorities urged students to respect the directive, describing the ban as a necessary step to maintain discipline and uphold the institution’s standards.
