Nigeria’s National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency has pledged to work with the Kano Independent Research Centre Trust to strengthen vaccine production and drug development.
The agency’s director general, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, gave the assurance during a tour of the Kano facility, stressing the need for collaboration in tackling tropical diseases and other health challenges facing the country. He said the centre’s laboratories and expertise provide a platform for research that can meet global standards. “We are ready to collaborate on vaccines, drug development and tropical diseases as we have the expertise and experienced staff to facilitate this research,” he noted.
KIRCT’s director general, Professor Hamisu Salihu, outlined the centre’s focus on mentoring leading academics, advancing training and supporting innovative research projects. The partnership is expected to boost Nigeria’s capacity to develop homegrown medical solutions and reduce reliance on imported vaccines.
