Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has elected three new Deputy Vice-Chancellors (DVCs) to lead key areas of the university. The election took place on June 26, 2025, by the university’s Senate. The new DVCs are Professor Adesola Aderounmu (DVC Academic), Professor Oluropo Akinfala (DVC Administration), and Professor Akanni Akinyemi (DVC Research, Innovation & Development), who was re-elected for a second term.
Professor Aderounmu once served as President of the Nigerian Computer Society. Professor Akinfala, a scholar in Animal Science, brings years of administrative experience and has chaired the university’s security committee. Professor Akinyemi has been known for driving major research and innovation projects at OAU since 2023. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, praised the new team and expressed confidence in their ability to move the university forward through excellence and innovation.
